英語では、動詞に「ed」をつけたり「ing」をつけたりして、形容詞的に用いられることがあります。
今回はその用法についてiBEC Academy外国人講師が大阪にて解説しました。

Do you ever hear people say things like “I am boring by chemistry.” or “That movie is interested.”?
When do we use these words?
The Verb + ed describes our feeling or someone’s feeling we get from something or someone:
I am bored by that subject.
The Verb + ing describes the thing person or situation which causes the feeling:
That subject is boring.
The verb (or Verb + s) talks about what the thing person or situation does to someone:
That subject bores me.
So for example:
I am excited by traveling somewhere. (my feeling)
Traveling somewhere is exciting. (talking about the thing)
Traveling somewhere excites me. (what travel does to me)
Let’s do some practice:

a. Interested b. interests c. interesting
2.I was ____________ by the comedian’s jokes.

3. Some people think accounting is very ____________.

There is one exception to this grammar– scary:
I am scared of snakes. (my feeling)
Snakes are scary. (talking about the thing)
Snakes scare me. (what snakes do to me.)

8. Sunlight __________ our skin so we should always wear sunscreen.
